A Supreme Court bench on Tuesday found the 61-year-old AIADMK general secretary guilty in a 21-year-old corruption case, and asked Sasikala to surrender immediately. Reversing the Karnataka high court judgment, the Supreme court upheld the trial court’s verdict and sentenced her to four years in jail. It also ordered a fine of Rs 10 crore as well as confiscation of her properties. The judgment further bars Sasikala from holding a public office and contesting elections for 10 years.
